The GDVO

Guy Daniel is a singer, songwriter and producer from New Jersey. He is the GDVO — the Guy Daniel Vastola Organization — and he works out of a room he owns: City Lights Recording Studio, purpose-built on Highway 33 in Farmingdale and running since 1989.

That order matters. Most artists rent a studio. Guy spent three decades in his own control room learning songwriting from the people who came through it, then made his own record in it.

The debut single, “Peace,” is his. He wrote it, and he brought in two voices that had already recorded at City Lights: The Chi-Lites, the Chicago group that put eleven singles in the R&B Top Ten between 1969 and 1974 and twenty-one on the Hot 100, and the late Denroy Morgan, the Jamaican-born reggae pioneer who founded the Black Eagles in New York in 1974 and won the New York Reggae Music Festival in 1977.

“Peace” was tracked between City Lights in New Jersey and Chicago, and released as the debut single of Chisound Music Group. It went out at 12:01pm on 20 January 2021 to launch a global peace campaign. In August 2025 it came back as The Instant Philly Funk Mix — the same song, rebuilt on a Philadelphia funk rhythm section.
